The purpose of the program is:
- to foster understanding of the complexities and interconnection that characterize our planet
- to nurture a lifelong respect for our environment
- to cultivate a sense of wonder
The program complements state science standards and enhances existing classroom curriculum with hands-on experimental lessons. This program buses school children to our camp each year as part of their curriculum. They are taught by student and professional staff to identify different plants and animals, and learn an appreciation for the environment.
Ragged Hill Woods reaches approximately 5,000 children in a school year, using the Windham County 4-H Outdoor Center and The Connecticut Audubon Center at Pomfret. This is a cooperative effort between the Connecticut Audubon Society and the 4-H Foundation, and the Cooperative Extension System. |
