Theme Weeks

Archery
Available to all campers, ages 10 to 15, campers are instructed by a certified archery instructor.  Improve your archery skills and learn fun target games you can play after leaving camp.

ARTS and CRAFTS
During this fun-packed week, young artists will learn to sharpen their 2-Dimension and 3-Dimension skills.   Our goal is to have each camper bring home product(s) they are proud of.

BASKETBALL
Fundamental skills in dribbling, passing, shooting, teamwork and defense will be stressed.  This is a great opportunity for children to hone their basketball skills on our modern basketball court.

CANOE
Canoe campers must be Red Cross certified level 4 swimmers. Basic canoe and safety skills will be taught by a certified instructor.  Campers will also learn canoe-tripping skills including portaging to second pond. There will be a weekend canoe trip opportunity for qualified campers on the Connecticut River during Stayover Weekend.

CHALLENGE COURSE/ROPES
Low ropes is an interactive, team building activity that is sure to challenge you mentally and physically.  Includes one day of either the high ropes course or our new (2005) horizontal climbing wall.  Are you up to this challenge?  Veteran staff will instruct.

Boys' Basketball Camp Game

Dance
Campers will select the dance steps they want to learn and then will practice those steps for Thursday’s dance when the class will put on a short exhibition. Choices include Swing, Salsa, Hustle, Waltz, Fox Trot, Tango and Rumba. A great way to begin to master an important life skill.

Drama
With the help of the Drama Instructor, campers will prepare their original plays to be acted out.  Each camper is involved in every aspect of the play’s production, from makeup to acting.

Fishing
In our "catch and release" program campers can practice casting and experiment with different types of bait while fishing in different locations of our large property under the watchful eye of experienced counselors. Campers may bring their own fresh water pole (with your name on it) or one will be provided.

Horseback Riding
($115 Additional Fee Per Week)

Join our experienced horse staff for summer fun at the stables.  Campers, ages 9 to 15, will learn to groom and tack a horse, ride in English or Western lessons, play ‘gymkhana’ games on horseback and even enjoy a trail ride in our beautiful woods!  Campers will have a two-hour horse activity class each day with one-hour of horseback riding instruction emphasizing safety and fun.  For the second hour campers will learn and participate in barn basics, horse care and equipment.

Nature
The Nature Lodge will be ‘Nature Central’ this year.  Campers will practice skills necessary to be a successful participant in the Canon ENVIROTHON – an international competition.  Wildlife, Soils, Aquatics, Forestry and a 5th topic to be announced will be the focus.  Campers will work with a large skull collection including moose, grizzly bear, mountain lion, and much more.  They will sift soil samples, make textural charts and investigate a soil profile pit.  Pole and seine nets will be used to capture the various aquatic species in our ponds and streams.  Insects and plants will be collected by campers, identified and placed in our permanent scientific collection.

Outpost/Survival
Campers will learn how to: make a fire even in the rain with wet materials, pitch tents/tarps, camp comfortably and safely, recognize edible/poisonous plants and camping hazards.  We will spend one night sleeping in the forest and cook our own dinner over a tripod-cooking fire. The camp instructor will be carefully supervised by an experienced naturalist & wilderness trip leader.

New! Photography
Campers will take candid and posed photos while learning about photo composition, lighting, editing and making photo collages. Campers should bring a camera (digital preferred), but camp will provide a camera if you don't have one. On Friday evenings a CD of campers' work will be playing in the lodge for parents to view and copies will be available for $5.00 each.

Sports and Recreation
Campers will select from a menu of options and learn skills in local and international sports.  Camp has a volleyball court, basketball court and softball field.
