To Our 4-H Camp Family and Beyond,
WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!!
In these unprecedented times, we are enormously grateful for the support of our Foundation Members, Camper and Alumni families, and our whole community. Per his executive order, Gov. Ned Lamont has indicated he would like camps to be open (unfortunately only day camps will be allowed to open) and we agree that there is a need and a benefit to our community for our camp to operate this summer.
Children and Teens will need a place to socialize, to be in the moment. to laugh, to learn new activities, to be outdoors, and experience the magic of camp! However, due to COVID-19 we have had to postpone our annual auction (hopefully September 2020) and our 5k camper scamper (TBD). Both of these events typically raise around $50,000 which gives us the necessary funds to keep our camp maintained, create programs, keep our current rates and create camp magic and long-lasting memories for the children and teens that we serve in our area.
We are also unsure about the status of our campership program where we provided financial assistance. While we were unable to hold these events on time, we still intend to operate camp this year. Our need for the funds generated by the Auction and the 5K remain. We also anticipate additional expenses in order to operate the camp safely under the CDC Guidelines. Also, with the loss of resident camp our financial need also increased.
Windham-Tolland 4-H Camp is dedicated to giving our community’s children and teens a safe place to be children, develop self-confidence, practice skills, challenge themselves, problem solve and grow. In today’s world, things are scary and sometimes overwhelming for children and us adults, as well.
Camp is a place where we protect and celebrate the joy of childhood. A place where your only goal and the only thing you, as a camper, need to think about is catching a fish, hitting a bullseye with an arrow, being part of a drama production, being in the moment you are in right now, feeling safe and experiencing the joy and magic of the great outdoors. Although that is the child’s goal, they are experiencing so much more at camp, they are problem solving, they are working together, they are communicating, they are trying new things, they are reflecting, they are succeeding.
We understand that these are stressful times for all; we greatly appreciate any contribution you can make to help us to make this the best camp season and to achieve our mission: to change the life of a child in a week. Please donate today. Thank you so much for your support! For more information about our Camp Program please visit www.4hcampct.org
